How to create urgency without lying about it

May 21, 20266 min read

Buyers can smell a fake deadline from across the room. The countdown timer, the “only 3 spots left,” the artificial price jump — these don’t create urgency. They create suspicion.

Real urgency has a downstream promise behind it. In 1993 I helped design a plant that had to start on a fixed date or a Fortune 500 producer would break a promise to a major customer. Nobody had to manufacture that pressure. It was simply true.

For MSSPs, honest urgency is everywhere if you look: cyber insurance renewal dates, compliance deadlines, a board meeting, a known threat window. The job of the asset is to surface the real reason — clearly, without exaggeration — so the buyer feels the stakes they already live with.
